How To Build Your Own Digital Picture Frame

Sure, it is a great idea- a digital photo frame. Think about it: You can actually put all of your pictures inside of one picture frame and set it up so they play on a continuous slide show. You can watch all of your pictures and show them off to your friends and family when they come over to visit. A digital picture frame isn't just a new trend it is one of the most popular, especially among the technological 'geeks' out there. The only problem is these handy little frames can cost a bundle. Actually, they can cost $200 to $500 for a decent frame! Since this not so handy price tag has kept many people from experiencing digital picture frames for the most part, not everyone has been able to have a slideshow picture viewing right in their living room; that is until now! It is not that difficult to build digital picture frames and we are going to look briefly on how you can do it!

While there are some low cost digital picture frames out there, this is the lowest cost alternative you have; building your own! Here's a step-by-step guide:

1. Find a cheap laptop that you can use for parts. This will be the base of your construction and will serve as your LCD screen as well. Find one of EBay or maybe from a computer store selling refurbished ones cheap.

2. Take the computer apart by safely (there are instructional courses online if you have never taken a laptop apart before) by detaching the LCD screen from the base monitor itself.

3. Have a picture frame shop build a shadow box around your computer so it acts as the actual frame. It should be roughly two inches deep and you get to decide on the color of the frame itself.

4. Use foam and tape to center the laptop within the frame. This will keep it center in the picture frame and not tilted! Whatever you do, don't use glue! It will create quite the mess for you to clean up and it could damage your computer.

5. If you want to have a Media Center remote control to accompany your laptop/ picture frame you will need to plug it in now and secure it. Simply tape the cords to the back of the frame so they stay out of the way.

6. Hang it up! Now it is time for the big appearance, hanging it up! Find the perfect spot for you new, homemade digital picture frame. Not only did you save a few hundred dollars, but you learned how to make a digital frame that works exactly how you want it to!
